The Mikoyan MIG-25 Foxbat was a Soviet Air Force high-speed interceptor fighter developed to counter the US XB-70 Valkyrie supersonic bomber .
Although the XB-70 project was changed to a prototype-only research program in 1961, the Soviets continued with their high-speed fighter program, culminating in the MIG-25.
The first flight is estimated to have been in early 1964, and the E-266,
which set numerous flight records in speed, altitude, and climb time from 1965 onwards, is said to be the same model as the MIG-25.
With excellent climbing ability and maneuverability at high altitudes, and
a maximum speed of Mach 3, it has attracted attention as an unparalleled fighter jet in the world.
